Belgrade was the capital of the most sophisticated countries in the Eastern bloc - Yugoslavia, before its meltdown in the 1990's. Today Serbia is very different compared to other Eastern European countries. Locals speak fluently English and pride themselves on offering good service and presenting a positive, welcoming attitude. Take a look at our Belgrade Map for the location of Belgrade Hotels available to be booked.

As the capital city of the Republic of Serbia, Belgrade is the largest city in the country. It is located at the convergence of the Danube and Sava rivers and is populated by 2,000,000 people. The city has an ancient and turbulent past that dates back to the fourth century B.C., when it was occupied by Celtic tribes. Later on, it transformed into the city of Singidunum during Roman times. Remnants of that era can still be found in the city, especially at the fortress at Kalemegdan. Our Budget Belgrade Hotels along with Belgrade Luxury Hotels, ensure guests have plenty to choose from on our website! Also, we offer Hotels in Novi Sad and additional Novi Sad Travel information!

Known as Beograd in Serbian, Belgrade is located at a strategic spot on the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers in south-eastern Europe. Belgrade is not pretty in the conventional sense, though it is complex and many-layered due to its varied influences. When taking a tour in Belgrade you will notice the city's indubitable charm is the result of many generations of invaders and the melding of different cultures and architecture.

Belgrade is one of Europe's ancient cities, settled as far back as 4500 B.C. Over the past millennium, Belgrade has been on the forefront of the Hapsburg and Ottoman empires - two significant dynasties whose forces opposed each other on the Balkan Peninsula.

A prominent park complex now marks the site of the original settlements on a strategic hill called Kalemegdan, which is deep inside the Old Town called Starigrad. The 17th century fortress of Kalemegdan looms large over this location which affords magnificent views. The fortress itself is a grim reminder of Belgrade's turbulent past - with its medieval gates, Orthodox churches and Muslim relics, making for an interesting Belgrade Travel experience.

Tours in Belgrade
you should take include the Military Musuem in Kalemegdan, which houses about 40000 exhibits, including parts of a US Stealth bomber. The museum's exhibits date from the past to the time of the NATO bombing. The fortress at Kalemegdan is also home to the Citadel Museum and the Belgrade Zoo. Both museums are closed on Mondays and so your should plan your Belgrade travel!

There are many things to see and do in Belgrade. The Kneza Mihaila is an ancient Roman road that is a major pedestrian thoroughfare now. It is packed with terrace cafés and has Kalemegdan on one end and Trg Republike and the National Museum on the other. Trg Republike is one of Belgrade's major attractions - a square that is the site of the National Museum. The museum has three floors packed with relics from Serbian history and was opened in 1844. A small collection of paintings by Picasso and Monet are housed here in Belgrade making the Belgrade Travel experience complete!

Other notable Belgrade tour attractions are the Palace of Princess Ljubica, famed for its Balkan opulence and the world's largest Orthodox church - the Church of St. Sava in Vracar.
